Therapies

The treatment options for rosacea cover a number of prevention measures as well as topical and systemic therapies. The choice as to which of these strategies is employed depends on the various subtypes and severity of the disease.

Topical treaments

  • Topical vitamin C preparations
  • Sulfacetamide

Physical treaments

  • Electrodessication
  • Dermabrasion
  • Laser surgery
  • Intense pulse therapy
  • Special massage (Sobye massage)

Systemic treaments

  • Antibiotics
  • Clarithromycin
  • Doxycycline
  • Minocycline
  • Tetracyclines
  • Isotretinoin
  • Short term corticosteroids in the case of special forms of rosacea only

In general, patients should be informed to take the following measures to support their medical treatment's success:

  • Avoidance of exacerbating trigger factors
  • Adequate sunscreen protection
  • Adequate skin care
